Sanctuary Creek memorial garden, a new peaceful and tranquil 1.3 acre area is now open at Gungahlin Cemetery for families to consider as a final resting place for loved ones.
Sanctuary Creek features innovative memorial options, designed specifically for the Canberra community, in a reflective space for families to inter their loved ones.
The boutique memorial space hosts water features and a covered rotunda area that can be used to hold small memorial services.
Sanctuary Creek has various Canberra specific artwork as well as a delightful blend of native and introduced plants, specifically selected for Canberra’s climate. Contours of Mount Ainslie have been used on a wall with nearby round interment spaces representing the many walking trails on the mountain. The gang-gang cockatoo, bluebell flower and Black Mountain are also featured in the area.
Families can choose from a variety of boutique interment options at Sanctuary Creek for their loved ones. These options include:
- Tranquillity Gardens – A garden interment option, either around the rotunda or stonework walls. A bronze plaque for memorialisation is available around the garden edging.
- Remembrance Beam – A tapered granite beam allowing up to 6 interments each. A bronze plaque for memorialisation, with the option of a family name plaque at the head of the beam, should all 6 allotments be purchased for a family.
- Eternal Ribbon – A polished stainless-steel ribbon that twists and bends through the gardens, reflecting the environment. Two interments per allotment, with a round bronze plaque, or locket-style plaque, available for memorialisation.
- Ainslie Wall – A granite wall made from ‘Indian Red’ granite, designed to reflect the contours and walking trails of Mount Ainslie. Round allotments available, with the options of either a bronze or glass plaque.
- Memory Capsule – Available in different sizes, colours, and designs. Memorialisation is available through a fully customisable, coloured acrylic plaque. The Memory Capsule allows the secure interment of cremated remains, plus any keepsakes or trinkets that the family holds dear.
- Niche Repose – A raised, yellow granite block garden edging for single interments. Memorialisation is by way of bronze plaque, that is affixed to the top of the allotment to seal the opening.
- Sunset Lantern – A lantern-shaped interment option, available in a choice of designs. The interment space can accommodate two standard cremated remains containers.
- Canberra Grove – A vertical interment option inspired by trees, with 7 ‘branches’ each accommodating two interments. The ‘crest’ of the tree is available in 3 different design options (gang-gang cockatoo, Telstra Tower, or the bluebell).
Allotments are available immediately, or for reservation at a later date.
